The city of Dubrovnik is a major cultural and tourist destination. It is the city of a unique political and cultural history (the Dubrovnik Republic, the Statute from 1272), of world-famous cultural heritage and beauty (inscribed on the List of World Heritage Sites by UNESCO) and one of the most attractive and famous cities of the Mediterranean. Because of a magnificent view on the mediaeval Dubrovnik, a walk along the town ramparts is a must for each visitor.
Cavtat is the ancient Epidaurum of the Adriatic; Civitas Vetus, the predecessor of Dubrovnik, a mediaeval town built according to zoning plans on the slopes of a peninsula with two easily accessible bays.
For centuries, its construction was based on the Dubrovnik principles of harmony. Each historical period is marked by the valuable works of some master. The cultural and historical story of its unique natural beauties can be retold uninterruptedly. In direct proximity to Dubrovnik (easily reached by bus or boat), enveloped in a mild Mediterranean climate and in exuberant vegetation, Cavtat developed into the cultural and tourist destination of Konavle, blooming in its tame beauty.
