About fib
Fib (fédération internationale du béton) was created in 1998 by the merger of the former CEB (Comité Euro-International du Béton, Euro-International Concrete Committee founded in 1953) and FIP (Fédération Internationale de la Précontrainte, International Federation for Prestressing, founded in 1952).
Continuing the work of these two associations, fib's mission is to promote, at the international level, study of scientific and practical aspects related to concrete construction in order to advance its technical, economic, aesthetic and environmental performance. fib's technical commissions produce state-of-art reports, guidance documents and recommendations, published as "Bulletins", which continuously influence, in a pre-normative way, the development of national and regional codes.
fib national member groups organise one or two international symposia per year on specific themes relating to concrete construction. In recent years symposia have been held in Athens (2003), Avignon (2004), New Delhi (2004), Budapest (2005) and La Plata (2005). Once every four years a comprehensive international congress is held on all aspects of structural concrete.
